Luke Surber celebrated with his Oklahoma State fans after the Cowboy upset Missouri's top-ranked Rocky Elam at 197 pounds and helped OSU beat the Tigers on criteria yesterday in Stillwater, Okla. This team victory came after Oklahoma State also beat Michigan at the Bout at the Ballpark last Friday in Arlington, Texas, to move the Cowboys up to No. 7 in WIN's Feb. 6 Dual Rankings.

Oklahoma State

Overview

NEWTON, Iowa — Oklahoma State, by virtue of its big wins over Michigan and Missouri last weekend, has moved up to No. 7 in WIN’s Feb. 6 Dual Rankings, presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.

The Cowboys (11-2 on the season) were ranked No. 10 last week before they defeated Michigan (then ranked sixth), 24-15, at the Bout at the Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, last Friday, before edging Big 12-rival Missouri, 17-16 on criteria, yesterday in Stillwater, Okla.

Among the bigger individual outcomes from the Cowboy-Tiger meeting saw Oklahoma State’s unranked Luke Surber upset Missouri’s top-ranked Rocky Elam, 5-4, at 197 pounds. That result moved Pitt’s Nino Bonaccorsi into the No. 1 spot at that weight class.

Penn State, coming off wins over No. 4 Ohio State and Indiana, remain No. 1 in both WIN’s dual rankings and Tournament Power Index, which predicts future team finishes at this year’s NCAA Division I Championship in Tulsa, Okla., based on individual wrestlers’ projected national finishes from results through Feb. 5.

The Nittany Lions feature nine ranked wrestlers, seven in the Top 8, which would earn All-American status, and three top-ranked wrestlers: Roman Bravo-Young (133), Carter Starocci (174) and Aaron Brooks (184).

Iowa is the only school with 10 ranked wrestlers, including top-ranked Spencer Lee at 125 pounds, and ranks second in both WIN’s dual rankings and TPI.

Iowa State, Ohio State and Missouri round out the top five schools in the Dual Rankings, while Nebraska, Missouri and Cornell are rated third, fourth and fifth in the TPI.

The remaining No. 1-ranked wrestlers per weight class include Northern Arizona’s Andrew Alirez (141), Cornell’s Yianni Diakomihalis (149), Nebraska’s Peyton Robb (157), Missouri’s Keegan O’Toole (165) and Michigan’s Mason Parris (285).
